DI Protects Against the Unexpected

IA disabling accident occurs every two seconds in the U.S., and a disability will keep one in every five workers out of work for at least a year before he or she reaches retirement age.1, 2 To protect your clients in light of these sobering realities, Union Central offers three distinctly different individual Disability Income contracts that offer valuable protection:

Noncancellable: Provides DI benefits to working professionals and executives, as well as persons in white- and gray-collar technical occupations (serving Occupational Classes 5AP-2A). Three definitions of Noncancellable DI are available in California: Own Occupation and not engaged for entire benefit period3; 60 Months Own Occupation and reasonable occupation thereafter; and 24 Months Own Occupation and reasonable occupation thereafter.

Guaranteed Renewable: Provides DI benefits to skilled technicians, on-site supervisors, manual laborers, and some unskilled trades (serving Occupational Classes A and B).

Disability Overhead Expense: Provides monthly payment to cover day-to-day business operating expenses, such as employees’ salaries, rental payments for property or equipment, utilities, general offices supplies, and more (serving Occupational Classes 5AP-3A).

To further enhance the protection and value for your clients, a variety of optional riders are available for Noncancellable and Guaranteed Renewable DI. For example:
Activities of Daily Living (ADL) is a rider that provides additional benefits if the insured is unable to perform two or more of six Activities of Daily Living without standby assistance or if cognitively impaired. Activities of Daily Living are: dressing, toileting, transferring, continence, eating and bathing. Other optional riders include:

  • Residual Disability
  • Inflation
  • Automatic Increase
  • Future Increase Option
  • Social Insurance Substitute

Several other features are built into Noncancellable and Guaranteed Renewable DI at no extra cost, including Nondisabling Injury — a feature not available with any other carrier in the market; Good Health Benefit, Surgical Transplant Benefit, Survivor Benefit, Presumptive Total Disability, and more.
